I Am Who I Have Been Looking For

A Soul Reflection by Debbie Gornichec

There was a time in my life when I believed someone else held the missing pieces of me.

I searched for love that would finally make me feel chosen. I searched for validation that would tell me I was enough.I searched for teachers who might have the answers I didn't. I searched for relationships that I hoped would fill the quiet places inside of me.

And while every person I met became a valuable teacher, none of them were ever meant to become my completion.

They were mirrors.

Some reflected my beauty. Some reflected my wounds. Some reflected my fears, my insecurities, my hopes, and my deepest longing to belong.

For years I believed I was looking for the right person.

What I eventually discovered was something much more profound.

I was looking for myself.

Not the version of me that wore masks to keep the peace. Not the version that overgave to earn love. Not the version that believed she had to rescue everyone around her.

The real me.

The woman beneath the expectations. The woman beneath the trauma. The woman beneath the fear.

Healing has taught me that becoming isn't about creating someone new.

It is about remembering who has always been there.

Every difficult relationship became an invitation.

Every disappointment asked me,

"Can you choose yourself here?"

Every heartbreak whispered,

"Can you love yourself even now?"

Every betrayal gently revealed the places where I had abandoned myself long before someone else ever could.

That realization changed everything.

Because the moment I stopped asking"Who will choose me?"

I began asking,

"Am I choosing myself?"

That question has transformed my life more than any answer I have ever received from another person.

We spend so much of our lives searching outside ourselves.

We search for the perfect relationship.

The perfect career.

The perfect amount of money.

The perfect spiritual teacher. The perfect healing modality.

None of those things are wrong.

They can all support our journey.

But none of them can replace the relationship we have with ourselves.

When we don't know who we are, we unconsciously ask the world to define us.

When we do know who we are, we begin creating our lives from the inside out.

That doesn't mean we stop growing.

It means we stop believing we are broken.

Growth isn't evidence that something is wrong with us.

Growth is evidence that we are alive.

I still have moments where old fears surface.

I still catch myself looking outside for reassurance.

But now I recognize those moments with compassion instead of judgment.

They are simply reminders to come home again.

Home isn't a place.

Home is the relationship we build with ourselves.

It is the quiet knowing that says,

"I trust myself."

"I will not abandon myself."

"I am worthy of my own love."

The greatest healing I have ever experienced wasn't finding someone who finally understood me.

It was becoming someone who finally understood herself.

The truth is, the peace you've been searching for...

The acceptance you've been longing for...

The love you've hoped someone else would give you...

All begin with the person staring back at you in the mirror.

Perhaps the person you've been waiting to rescue you...

has been patiently waiting for you to notice them all along.

Perhaps...

You are who you've been looking for.

Reflection Questions

  • Where in my life am I waiting for someone else to give me what I can begin giving myself?

  • What part of myself have I been neglecting while searching for external validation?

  • If I completely trusted myself, what decision would I make today?

  • How can I choose myself with greater love, honesty, and compassion this week?

Closing Reflection

Healing isn't about becoming someone more worthy of love.

It is about remembering that you have always been worthy.

The journey home begins the moment you stop searching everywhere else...

and gently turn inward.

Because the person you've been looking for has been walking beside you all along.

It's you.
